The Society is a third party reporting centre for HATE CRIME
- Durham Police are currently undertaking a number of initiatives to tackle the
under-reporting of hate incidents and hate crimes in County Durham and
Darlington.
A Hate Crime is any hate incident which constitutes a criminal offence,
perceived by the victim or any other person as being motivated by prejudice or
hate. It can be based on a person's race, religious belief, sexual orientation,
disability or transgender.
Hate Crime can involve: physical violence and assault,
verbal abuse, obscene calls or texts, offensive mail, email or graffiti, damage
to property, arson, dumping of rubbish, or offensive or dangerous substances
posted through letterboxes.
By reporting an incident you enable the police and partnership agencies to
build up patterns of behaviour, highlight areas of concern and provide us with
a 'True Vision ' of hate crime within your community helping us to allocate
resources most effectively. You can state that your personal details are not to
be passed on to other agencies if you wish. However if you do allow us to pass
your details on, you can be reassured that it will be done confidentially.
To report a hate crime, ring the Society on 0191 386 8175 or contact Durham
Constabulary on the new, non-emergency number 101.
